Scottsdale Classic Car Auctions - Day Two
When the hammer came down on the first car to reach the podium at Barrett-Jackson, a 1947 Crosley 2 Door Coupe, it was just the start of how the rest of day seemed to progress. Not many cars came through that would be considered "rare", but a lot of interesting cars that you probably don’t see parading around your local car show. Some of the other more interesting notables of the day - a 1958 BMW 600 Limousine, a 1963 Heinkel Trojan and a 1967 Amphicar Convertible. If you’re a fan of the TV series Monster Garage, there is forty two cars that were transformed on the show up for auction – fourteen of them sold at Barrett-Jackson on Wednesday.
Three cars tied for taking top dollar and hitting the $100,000 dollar mark - a 1957 Bell Air Convertible, a 1971 Ford Torino 429 Cobra Jet and a 1957 Custom Bel Air. Two cars caught our attention as “the one we would love to drive home”. A 1960 Oldsmobile 98 Convertible that sold for $44,000, and a 1939 Lincoln Zephyr 2 Door Convertible that somebody else will be putting in their garage for $65,000.
In a press conference, Ritchie Fliegler, VP of Marketing at Barrett-Jackson, said the sales total for day two was approximately $6,700.000, and their website hits increased to 16 million. Other key facts he shared with the press was that this year, BJ has a 13 percent increase in foreign bidders, and a twenty five percent increase in bidder credit limit so far over 2007.
