1964 Pontiac Banshee Prototype for Sale on eBay
For $1.5 million you can own this 1964 Pontiac Banshee that is presently for sale on eBay Motors. According to the eBay listing, it was designed by the GM Executive at the time, John Delorean, for the purpose to compete with Ford’s Mustang. But GM’s decision makers thought the Banshee would hurt Corvette sales and the car never went into production. Oddly enough, by 1968 the Corvette seemed to take on a remarkable resemblance to the 1964 Banshee prototype – as well as the 1968 Opel GT and others.
Two Banshee prototypes were built, a coupe and convertible, and they were both supposed to be scrapped but ended up in the hands of Bill Collins, chief engineer under DeLorean. Today, the convertible is owned by Bortz’s Auto Collection in Highland Park, Illinois.
The owner of the Banshee coupe, Len Napoli of Napoli Motors, is ready to part with his piece of General Motors history, again. Evidentially it was on eBay last year for $1.3 million, but didn’t sell. This time around maybe someone will buy this fiberglass dream machine, on a 90 inch wheel base, which has only 1500 miles on its OHC straight-six and Muncie four speed transmission. And, according to Napoli, the car has been kept in its original condition.
You can view Napoli’s listing on the eBay Motors website. But before you do, you may want to look through our article on "How to Buy a Car on eBay" – just in case you find yourself wanting to be the next owner of this one and only Pontiac Banshee coupe.
