CEO of Pininfarina Dies in Road Accident
Andrea Pininfarina, CEO of Italian design and contract manufacturer Pininfarina, has died in a road accident near Turin, Italy after a car collided with the Vespa motorcycle scooter he was riding to the company's design and R&D center in Cambiano. Andrea Pininfarina was fifty one years old.
Pininfarina is known worldwide by the finest automakers as the design house that can bring life to their cars. The company was founded in 1930 by Battista "Pinin" Farina who began building one-off or limited production body styles for automakers Lancia, Fiat and Alfa Romeo.
One of the first monumental designs coming from the Pininfarina factory was the Cisitalia 202, which was named one of the eight outstanding cars of our time by the Museum of Modern Art. In 1952, Pininfarina began what has been a long enduring and successful relationship with Ferrari. Their collaborations with other auto companies, such as Peugeot, General Motors and Ford, has created some of the world's most memorable automotive art forms.
