Before you take a look at our choices for the most beautiful or unusual dashboards and instrument panels we found during Monterey's Classic Car week, we would like say that the decision to focus the dashboard also sent us to investigate the origin how it got that name.
Our research shows that the term “dashing” could be used to describe someone who looked striking; to be dashed could mean that you were struck or destroyed by something. The name "dashboard" was giving to the board that was placed in the front of horse drawn carriages that stopped the driver and passengers from being struck by rocks, mud and water being thrown up by the horse's hooves.
Maybe the name hasn’t changed but the dashboard surely has. Check out some of the ones we found at Monterey, where the best of the best cars and their dashboards gather annually.
