We loved this car and was not surpised that it sold for $269,500. This car was advertised to be a twin to the 1912 Renault Town Car known to have gone down with the Titanic. It has been restored to the pattern of the car used in James Cameron's epic film of that name. The 20th Century Fox research department had determined from insurance records that indeed a 1912 Renault Town Car owned by William Carter had been loaded as cargo on Titanicts fateful voyage. Carter survived the ordeal, and later filed an insurance claim for $5,000.
The records from Lloyds of London were incredibly detailed, describing color, trim, interior, and even the crystal flower vases in the passenger compartment. The insurance information was used to paint and outfit it in authentic fashion, and also to construct a set replica for the well-known love scene.
