If you’re wondering what car to buy today, in the hopes that it will be a classic in the future, you need to order yours rare. Rarity and documentation are the two ingredients that make collectors salivate and go into a bidding frenzy. Three American automotive icons, Ford Motor Company, the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company and Shelby Automobiles, who are well aware of what makes an enthusiast say “I want one”, have created another limited edition production automobile to put on the menu - the 2008 Barrett-Jackson Shelby GT.
Only one hundred of these Barrett-Jackson Shelby GTs will be built and sold through Arizona Region Ford dealers. While we were at the Barrett-Jackson auctions in January, Ford Motor Company’s Phoenix Regional Sales Manager, Tim Stoehr, let us get up close and personal with the prototype that was on display there.
The car itself was very impressive to look at with its black on black color scheme, and sporting the signature Barrett-Jackson red stripes. More impressive would be the driving experience; the car comes equipped with the Ford Racing and Handling package. In a press release, Amy Boylan, President of Shelby Automobiles explained, "In addition to the 'go faster goodies,' each will receive special badges and equipment, as well as a photo of one of these cars signed by Carroll."
If that isn’t enough, the Barrett-Jackson Shelby GT has its own limited edition clothing line. Good thing too because the clothes are all you can buy now; all the cars have been spoken for according to Ford’s Phoenix Regional Sales Manager, and Reggie Jackson is one of the one hundred proud owners. We couldn't help but think that it would have been a great learning experience for any student of marketing to be with us at Barrett-Jackson that day.
