When we were at the Scottsdale Russo and Steele Classic Car auction in January, all the cars were being detailed with Adam’s Detail Spray before going up on the block. We asked a few of the folks who were contracted to clean the cars how they felt about the product, and all had positive reviews.
Now to paint a picture for you, the cars up for auction at Russo and Steele were parked on a covered black top surface, but surrounded by vacant dirt lots that were used for visitor parking. That creates a lot of dust. When I asked if dust was a problem when using Adam’s Detail Spray, the answer was no. Right on the label, it says you can spray the product on a clean or dusty paint.
Okay, but they were also using the spray in direct sunlight - still no problem. You can use Adam’s Detail Spray in the sun or shade, hot or cool temperatures. You've probably guessed that we had to get a bottle of this detailing spray and check it out. In the Adam's booth at Russo and Steele, where they were demonstrating and selling the product, we met Adam, the founder of Adam's, who kindly gave us a sample bottle to try.
We decided to detail two of our cars, the 1968 XKE and the 1995 XJS, inside the garage and outside in the sun. We used Meguiars Ultimate Quik Detailer on one side of the cars, and on the other side, we used Adam's. At the end of this exercise, we really couldn't tell which product left a better shine - both did a great job on the paint, glass, chrome and rubber bits.
The biggest difference was how much easier the Adam's product was to use. Adam's could be sprayed over a much larger surface and wiped off more easily. Meguiars required working in two foot sections of the car and needed a little more rubbing to remove streaking, in the shade or sun. When working on the 68 Jag and its still original paint, the less rubbing we do, the better.
When we review a product for classic cars, we always try express its good and bad points, and what would make it better. Other than the funky pink color, we really couldn't find anything wrong with Adam's Detail Spray - it even smells good.
