Before you list your car, gather up all the information you can find. This should include receipts, sales paperwork, registration and ID documentation, manuals, instruction books and historical contacts that include prior owners and mechanics.

Then create a document that includes all you know about the car’s history, special features and any of its strengths and weaknesses. This way you present the car in an honest, complete and consistent manner to prospective buyers.

Smart buyers will want to know as much about the car as possible, and see the documentation to back up what you’ve told them. The more information you can give a buyer, the less risk they will feel in the purchase. In turn, feeling less risk, the buyer will be more likely to meet your selling price.
