It’s comforting to hear a smooth, solid sound when closing the door on any car. And if you can hear that sound after restoring a fifty year old car, it’s like music to your ears. All the better if you can show pictures detailing the work you did to accomplish such a feat.
When we removed the leather from the MG’s interior door panel, we found the frame to be in an acceptable condition from a strength and resilience perspective. However, we elected to upgrade the frame by treating it with a wood hardening sealer, painting and stripping, cleaning out the drain holes and treating and resealing the body panel from the inside. For the metal body parts we find that the commercially available sealers with rust inhibitors, such as Dinitrol, to be excellent in performance.
