What's is the year, make and model of the car?
1964 Ford Thunderbird
Why did you buy this particular car?
When I was ten years old my Uncle Jim bought a brand new 1964 Thunderbird. I fell in love with that car the first time I laid eyes on it and I knew one day I'd have one of my own.
Where did you find the car?
On eBay Motors.
Tell us about your classic.
It took me over 7 years to find the right car and my wait was worth it.
This car has 68K original miles on it and has been well cared for all of it's life. The woman I bought it from was the first and only owner and she meticulously kept every receipt and service record in a journal.
It has the swing-away steering wheel, which swings out about 10 inches to the right in order to make getting in and out easier.
It has a V8 with the 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission, and is a pleasure to drive.
What do you love most about the car?
Seeing the faces of young boys looking at it when I take it to shows, reminds me of how I felt about that model year when I first saw it. And when I get to take Uncle Jim for a ride in my Thunderbird, and every once in a while I let him drive it, just like he did for me.
Lessons Learned
It's much better to pay the money to find a well taken care of original car than trying to restore one that has been left for dead or run hard. Every time I looked at a Thunderbird that was a restoration project and added up the costs, it was well over what they were selling for at auction.
