Speed Gives Barrett-Jackson More Air Time in Florida
Barrett-Jackson will begin its 6th Annual Collector Car Event in Palm Beach, Florida on Thursday, March 27th and run through Sunday, March 30th. Now for those of us who can’t be there, we can watch it on Speed. Last year the event only got two hours of air time, but this season the network will devote nineteen hours - in high definition. The coverage will be live starting on Friday at noon, ET, at South Florida Expo Center with Bob Varsha, the Voice of Formula One on SPEED, and Matt Stone, Motor Trend magazine editor, giving the play-by-play. Mike Joy, the Voice of NASCAR on FOX, and former Hot Rod magazine technical editor Steve Magnante will be giving commentary from the auction block.
Barrette-Jackson is still keeping with the “All Auctioned at No Reserve” policy. That is one good reason to watch the Speed coverage of the Palm Beach auction because we expect to see some good bargains to be had. At the 35th Atlantic City Classic Car Auction, which was held on February 26th through March 1st, over 550 cars went up for auction but only 150 met their reserve and were sold. That should be a big eye opener for those who claim the collector car market is still strong despite the failing economy.
Some of the cars we will be interested to see cross the block are:
- Two KITT Mustangs used in the "Knight Rider" pilot
- 1970 Corvette ZR-1f LT-1 coupe
- 1957 Bel Air convertible
- 9,000 original mile Plymouth Superbird
- 1955 Porsche Speedster
- 1948 Lincoln Continental coupe
