Oprah WinfreyWhen someone mentions the name Oprah, we think television host, media mogul, and philanthropist. Her internationally syndicated talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, has earned her multiple Emmy Awards, and is the highest-rated talk show in the history of television. She is also an influential book critic, an Academy Award-nominated actress, and a magazine publisher.

Now we’ve added car enthusiast and collector to our list of Oprah honors. In a press release, Gooding & Company has announced that Ms. Winfrey will be auctioning off three vehicles from her private collection at their Pebble Beach auction on Saturday, August 16th and Sunday, August 17th. The cars include a red 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing formerly owned by the DuPont family, a 1988 Rolls-Royce Corniche II Convertible given to her by John Travolta and a 1997 Aston Martin DB7 Volante. This only makes us wonder what other fine vehicles we might find in Oprah’s garage.

All proceeds from the sale of these cars will benefit the annual Arts and Culture Workshop at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, adding to the $40 million she's already personally donated to the cause. David Gooding, president and founder of Gooding & Company said, “It’s an honor to have been chosen by Ms. Winfrey to support this noble cause. Each of these vehicles has a wonderful and interesting history and they will certainly generate tremendous interest at Pebble Beach.”

Celebrity cars always tend to be the favorites among spectators and hopefully Oprah’s name will entice bidders to raise top dollar for her cars and the Leadership Academy for Girls.
