Jay Leno Sued Over 1931 Duesenberg

Thursday October 16, 2008
Bloomberg has reported today that Jay Leno, “Tonight Show” host, comedian and vintage car collector is being sued over his purchase of a 1931 Duesenberg luxury roadster from a New York City garage in 2005.

According to the report, Leno paid $180,000 for the car and then had it restored. The law suit filed by Wendy Lubin, daughter of Macy's heir John Strauss who previously owned the car, states that the car’s value is $1.7 million, and is asking for that amount in damages.

The suit is also claiming that Leno purchased the Duesy through an alleged "sham'" auction set up while the elderly plaintiff was suffering from dementia.

You can find the full story being reported by Bloomberg on their website.

Looking into the story, we found this link to a 2006 article that Sports Car Market wrote of Leno’s finding this Duesenberg .

We'll keep our eye on this story and update you as information comes in.

(2) Larry A. Lewis says:

I first heard of the Duesenberg in an article in a car magazine (Car and Driver) back in the 1970s where the writer bribed his way int the garage and was able to look at it, but not take any pictures. He did says it had a rather plain body and there was a Rolls next to it, both on flat tires. Makes me wonder what else is lurking in NYC garages. Also, the Strauss’ are related to the couple who died on the Titanic.
