Restoring Your Classic's Chrome Parts

When The Parts Come Back From The Plater

As soon as you get your replated parts back, refer to your photos to make sure you have everything. Then check each item carefully for nickel shadow. Nickel shadow shows up as a slight golden patch where the nickel underneath is showing through the chrome. If you're not sure whether you've found nickel shadow or not, exhale on the area. The condensation from your breath will make it more obvious. Then check to make sure that the parts fit back into place and that they weren’t over chromed.

If you are not happy with the job that has been done, point it out and ask to have it remedied. Most reputable shops will fix a job that has not been done correctly. Having a conversation about what you expect from the chrome shop before you leave your pieces, can be a good way to avoid any surprises when you pick them up.
